TEARS Foundation is a women-led organisation where help is provided regardless of ethnicity, religion, culture or socioeconomic background or location.

The NPO provides access to crisis intervention, advocacy, counselling, and prevention education services for those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and child sexual abuse.

Confidential services are provided to all victims at no charge.

Tshegofatsa Rona is based in Van Riebeeck Park and it is a shelter that provides a safe space for abused women and children. Cynthia Dinalane is the founder of the local shelter.

“The shelter houses on average 48 women and children. The babies homed there are victims of rape,” said Mara Glennie, founder of TEARS Foundation.

“Dinalane, with whom we work, contacted us to advise us that her residents were without food at the shelter.

“This shelter, committed to fighting GBV, survives on donations and funding grants from a variety of sources.

“We must emphasise that the biggest need is currently for a commitment to monthly contributions for food.

“It is a registered NPO and can supply a Section 18A for all monetary and new items if supplied with an invoice as well as an SED Certificate for all monetary donations towards the shelter’s daily costs.

“We are requesting that you pledge to assist with the daily running costs and to keep food on the table for the vulnerable women and children.”
