Tip-off leads BFS to hijacked car, suspects

The team also arrested a suspect disguised as a security guard.

A tip-off about a vehicle reported as hijacked in Benoni resulted in the arrest of two suspects in Thembisa on April 22.

Benoni SAPS Flying Squad (BFS) members followed up on information about the car, a blue Chevrolet Cruze, which led them to Emangweni Section.

The two suspects were charged with possession of the hijacked vehicle and an unlicensed 9mm pistol.

Spokesperson WO Grant Giblin said members also responded to a business robbery on Seventh Road in Pomona on April 23, which resulted in the confiscation of weapons and one arrest.

“A suspect disguised as a security guard was arrested on the scene after he was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol with seven live rounds of ammunition. It is alleged that during the robbery he took uniforms from the security guards that he was found wearing it to disguise himself,” said Giblin.

One suspect was arrested for dealing drugs at Vusi Musi Section, Thembisa. Nyaope (heroine) and rocks (cocaine) were confiscated.

The unit also recovered three abandoned hijacked vehicles, which included a grey Audi A5 on Allandale Road, a white Mitsubishi Fuso truck on Lovato Street in Sebenza and a white Hyundai Accent on Bartlett Road, Boksburg.
