Originally from the Northwest, the Ivory Park resident vocalist and dancer, Miss Gwen, released her new single called Pelo (heart) on March 31 with the hopes of addressing the issues in her audiences’ hearts.

Originally known for her hit song Bona, produced by DJ Thakzin released in 2016, Miss Gwen hopes her new single gains even greater traction than Bona as she feels people should be able to relate to the song.

She has also released a couple of banging Afro house songs since the beginning of her music career in 2015, including Utlwa, which featured Hypesoul and Nako, recorded late in 2017.

The talented artist, whose music has reached thousands across the country, including being played on Thobela and Lesedi FM, said she does this all without a record label, which comes with its own challenges.

“Most of my music has been released without the help of a record label. I distribute my music through a distribution service and do my own PR, as well as manage my performance bookings,” said Miss Gwen.

She has also been described as a phenomenal brand, who is the reincarnation of Brenda Fassie and Lebo Mathosa by many who listen to her music.

She said her inspiration comes from the things she has gone through, and what inspired her to write Pelo was seeing other people go through what she went through.

“The song is about how important the heart is and how we should respect ourselves and health.

“What I want people to take away from the song is that the heart is an important emotional and necessary thing.

Every situation goes with us. No matter what the difficulty we face because of our hearts desires, we will always conquer,” said Miss Gwen.

Pelo is available on all streaming platforms. For bookings, email missgwenbona@gmail.com or follow her on Facebook and Instagram @Gwen Lekoma for more information.
