The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members recovered four vehicles and made several arrests between March 14 to 16.
BFS recovered four vehicles, which were a Volkswagen Crafter reported on a Midrand case, a white Volkswagen Golf found in Buhle Park following a Boksburg case, a silver Kia Picanto found in Kempston Avenue in Benoni following a Boksburg case and a white Toyota Hilux found in a field next to R25 in Kempton Park following an Etwatwa case.
Members also followed up on information received from a tracking company about a hijacked Scania truck in the Heidelburg area.
“The hijacked truck was found in Bunyan Avenue in Benoni. The truck’s trailer was still missing and upon receiving further information, members of the BFS were led to a business park in Haggit Street, Dunswart, where they found four suspects offloading an excess of 600 aluminium strips worth about R1.5m,” said WO Grant Giblin, spokesperson of BFS.
“The four suspects were arrested and detained at the Boksburg Police Station on March 15.
“On the same day, members arrested a man for possession of six bags full of dagga at his home at an estate in Dunlin Road, Norkem Park.”
Giblin said officials were approached by another man at the Norkem Park Police Station, offering a R1 100 bribe for the release of the suspect.
The man was also arrested for bribery upon handing over the cash to the police.
Giblin warned the public that bribery is a criminal offence.
