ERK paddlers help Gauteng claim top honours

Gauteng claimed first place in the men’s division one, u-21 and u-16 categories.

East Rand Kayaking (ERK) paddlers played a dominant role to help Gauteng walk away with the South Africa Canoe Polo Championship trophy in Cape Town from March 4 – 6.

Gauteng claimed first place in the men’s division one, u-21 and u-16 categories.

The ERK team included chairperson of Canoe Polo SA Chris de Bree, Kyle Laxton, Kyle Buchler, Kyle Solan, David Clulee, Declan Taylor, Warren Edwards, Tyler and Xavier Mans, Rowen Attwell and Paige Clulee.

Kyle Laxton told the City Times that the overall performance of the teams was proof that hard work and dedication pay off.

“It was great. Everything was just perfect.

“For us to win all these divisions is a product of teamwork and dedication to this sport. We have represented the province very well, and we are looking forward to other competitions coming,” said Laxton.

With the Canoe Polo World Championships coming up in August, Laxton added that the victory further proved that they have grown as competitors. He said if selected, they won’t go to France to make the numbers.

“I am positive that I will be among the ones chosen to represent this country because having a team like this one makes my job easier as I believe in us as a collective,” he concluded.
