Although the videos are not related to each other, the police officers in both videos have been identified to be from the Kempton Park Police Station.

To social media users, police officers appear to receive a bribe in the most recent video, which started circulating on March 21.

“Management of SAPS in Gauteng has noted with concern the video that is circulating on social media. The members in question have been identified as members of Kempton Park SAPS Vispol,” said Col Dimakatso Sello, SAPS provincial spokesperson.

“An enquiry has been opened against them for further investigations through the Anti-Corruption Unit. Bribery is a serious criminal offence and is punishable by law. Management will not tolerate any criminal activities within the service.”

Community members are encouraged to be whistle-blowers and take part in stopping corruption by reporting incidents to the SAPS anti-corruption hotline on 0800 43 43 73.

“All SAPS members have a responsibility to uphold and enforce the law as mandated by the constitution of the country and further adhere to the code of conduct,” emphasised the acting provincial commissioner, Maj-Gen Girly Mbele.

In the video that circulated about a week ago, a police officer appears to be slapping a woman.

The officer and woman exchange words before he is seen slapping her. Sello identified the officer as a clerk at the local police station.

“The management of SAPS in Gauteng has noted with disappointment the video circulating on social media, where an employee of SAPS appears to be slapping a woman,” said Sello.

“The incident is condemned in the strongest possible terms. As the SAPS, we are mandated to protect and serve and fight against any violence, especially those perpetrated against women and children.

“The woman has opened a case of assault, while the officer opened a crimen injuria case. A departmental case has also been opened against the member in question.”
