Its goal is to raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ members’ achievements and to educate the community about them.

The march will take place in Ebubleni Park, Thembisa, at 09:00.

According to one of the founders, Khosi Buthelezi, the event also aims to raise awareness about the challenges that the LGBTQIA+ community faces daily.

“We are demonstrating against issues such as corrective rape, societal insults, hate crime in communities, open cases that are not being addressed and do not receive the necessary attention from the police, as well as experiencing unwelcome and unneeded nasty attitudes from them,” said Buthelezi.

“We’re being treated cruelly and unfairly at work and even in public places in our neighbourhoods. A memorandum drafted by members of our community will be handed over to the SAPS on the day of the march.

“We would appreciate it if our communities, the police and healthcare providers took us seriously. We’d like to be treated on an equal footing.

“We are humans. We want to be respected in our communities as well as in other communities, particularly in government,” said Buthelezi.
