Suspect nabbed for possession of unlicensed firearm

According to Captain Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni District Communications Officer the suspect was noticed driving a white VW Caddy on January 27 and surveillance was maintained until an operational team comprised of SAPS Ekurhuleni North Crime Intelligence and EMPD arrived.

A suspect was apprehended for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on January 27 after police received information about his whereabouts on Dark Street near Motsu Park in Thembisa.

According to Captain Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni District communications officer, the suspect was noticed driving a white VW Caddy on January 27.

Surveillance was maintained until an operational team comprised of SAPS Ekurhuleni North Crime Intelligence and EMPD arrived.

“The car was stopped by the operational team at Motsu Section, Thembisa. During the search, a black Glock pistol with live ammunition was discovered in the possession of the suspect who was arrested. The suspect’s vehicle was also circulated but tested negative for any open cases,” said Sekgobela.

He said according to preliminary investigations, the same suspect is selling vehicles that were previously parked in an open place in Motsu.

“The suspect declined to provide the police with his identification number or date of birth, but he is from Getrude Street in Birchleigh North.”
