Update at 21:00:

An update from the MMC of Energy Clr Senzi Sibeko and circulated by ward councillors stated that a fault on the 66 kV cable supply in Kempton Park tripped.

This caused yet another power outage in large parts of Kempton Park.

“The cause has been determined as a fault on a blue phase feeder and the team is on site locating the fault. We are exploring alternative measures to restore power.

“At the moment it is very difficult to estimate restoration time.”

Less than five days later, several areas again report power outages.

Residents are reporting that power is out in Aston Manor, Terenure, Glen Marais, Van Riebeeck Park, Birchleigh, Allen Grove and Norkem Park.

Ward 15 Clr Amanda Davison responded that CoE is aware of the power outage in large parts of Kempton Park including Van Riebeeck Park, Norkem Park, Birchleigh, Edleen, Bonaero Park and Birch Acress. Davison and Ward 104 Clr Tracey Lourenco said a team had been dispatched to investigate.

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) is yet to respond to the Express‘ urgent request for information on the latest power outage.

Water supply interruption

At the time of inquiring about the power outage, Express was also notified of unplanned water supply interruption in Kempton Park.

“CoE is aware of a water supply interruption that has resulted in low pressure to no water. This is due to a water leak at the corner of Geldenhuys and Caro roads in Bonaero Park. Work is underway to repair the burst pipe and the estimated time for restoration of water supply is 18:00 today,” said CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Pomona and parts of Bonaero Park and Brentwood Park are affected by the water supply interruption.

Water tankers are located at the corner of Geldenhuys and Atlas roads in Bonaero Park and at the corner of Main and Stanley roads in Brentwood Park.
