Communications officer for Benoni Flying Squad WO Grant Giblin said members of the flying squad, assisted by EMPD, arrested on January 18.
He said the arrests were made after officers followed up on information provided to them by a tracking company that led them to a warehouse in Benoni Industrial near Actonville.
“Upon arrival at a warehouse, two suspects were arrested as they were offloading alleged hijacked tyres from a truck,” said Giblin.
Giblin said upon further investigation, officers found the warehouse to be loaded full of truck tyres, refrigerators, security locks, sewing machines, boxes of wine, glue, polish, clothing, shoes and other electrical appliances.
“These goods were mostly traced to five truck hijackings reported at Germiston, Boksburg North, Sebenza and Moffat View, all in the past two months,” said Giblin
“The scene was handed to the Provincial Investigation Unit for further investigation.”
The suspects will face charges of possession of stolen and hijacked goods in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.
