Following a joint operation with SAPS, the EMPD seized a fully loaded truck on the R562 near Olifansfontein in what appeared to be a hijacking syndicate operation.

The three-ton truck was discovered to be transporting, among other things, washing powder, energy drinks, vehicle engine oil and tin fish.
Pheladi Mmoko, a member of the Mayoral Committee on Community Safety, praised the officers for their efforts.

He stated that the police had been tracking the suspicious delivery van for some time before cornering it and arresting one of the suspects.

“Upon investigation, the police discovered an illegal firearm, counterfeit money and it was later confirmed that the stock that was being transported was stolen,” Mmoko said.

He added that the suspect led police to a shop in Thembisa’s Swazi Inn Section where more suspected stolen goods were discovered.
Another two men were apprehended.

“Most of these stolen goods were taken during hijackings and business robberies in different parts of the province. They were then stored in different warehouses including the one in Tshwane,” said Mmoko.

Mmoko asked members of the public to report any suspicious actions to the police by walking to the station or calling 08600 10111.
