Members of EMPD and Kempton Park SAPS made two arrests after tracking a hijacked vehicle with the help of a tracking company to a building in Nimrod Park. One man was also shot and died on the scene.

The vehicle was reported hijacked on September 27 from Dawn Park, Boksburg.

Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, the spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, said police officers on patrol saw an EMPD vehicle following a Volkswagen Polo.

On arrival in Poplar Street, the officers spotted the Volkswagen Polo parked outside a block of flats.

A member of the public informed officers that they saw the occupants of the vehicle entering one of the flats.

“Officers approached the flat and found three men inside. During questioning, one man jumped from the balcony and attempted to escape in the direction of Monument Road.

“The man ran towards Aster Avenue, where officers found him hiding behind a tree. He pointed a firearm at the officers. He was shot and wounded and died from his injuries. It was later found the gun he had was a toy gun,” said Ditshego.

On further investigation, officers found khat and dagga inside the flat.

Ditshego said that the two men who remained in the flat were further questioned by officers.

The men will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of hijacked vehicle and dealing in illegal substance.
