Norkem SAPS and Easter bunny lead roadblock

Norkem Park SAPS led a night operation last week Friday with the help of the Easter bunny, where motorists were pulled over in Birchleigh and Edleen.

The station’s spokesperson, Sgt Barbara Ferreira, along with a team of Birchleigh Community Watch volunteers and various pageant contestants, assisted to facilitate the operation.
A roadblock was stationed at Mooifontein Road and CR Swart Road later that evening.

“The modus operandi of this operation was to do a quick check of licence disks of selected vehicles and to pull over suspicious-looking motorists. Once pulled over, our officers would determine whether a search was necessary. The searches were conducted to determine whether motorists were travelling with illegal firearms, illegal substances or open liquor containers,” Ferreira stated.

The friendly bunny companion assisted officials to keep children in pulled-over vehicles calm and cheery while officers facilitated the roadblocks.

Although the operation did not yield any criminal discoveries, Ferreira stated Saturday’s operation had a lot more action. The discoveries on Saturday were not confirmed by the time of going to print.
