Baby boy found dead inside bag

A case of concealment of birth is under investigation by Kempton Park SAPS and the Express wishes to remind the community of Jeremiah’s Hope baby safe for unwanted babies.

A body of a newborn boy was discovered on the corner of Voortrekker Road and Pine Avenue in Kempton Park on Sunday morning before noon. According to Ineke van Huyssteen, spokesperson for ER24, paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after 11am to find the baby inside a plastic bag.

“Unfortunately, he was showing no signs of life and he was declared dead at the scene by paramedics. It is understood that a member of the public came across the baby and alerted the police,” Huyssteen stated.

Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, confirmed that Kempton Park SAPS received information about the baby found abandoned at the said location near Arwyp Private Hospital.

Mtshali said: “On arrival it is alleged they found a stillborn baby boy covered in a black plastic bag and the attending paramedics declared it dead on scene.”

The police are investigating concealment of birth and a post mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death. The Express previously published an article to raise awareness about a safe haven for unwanted babies.
