Two alleged rapists arrested in Rhodesfield

During the arrest, one of the suspects was found in possession of a pellet gun.

Kempton Park SAPS Crime Prevention Unit made a breakthrough when they arrested two alleged rapists in Rhodesfield on March 20.

The arrests were made near the Gautrain railway line, which has recently become known to be a notorious area for rape incidents. Capt Jethro Mtshali, the spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, said the crime prevention unit members were performing their duties and patrolling when they received information about an alleged rape.

“Upon arrival, they found a 23-year-old victim who reported she was allegedly raped by two suspects, one armed with a firearm,” said Mtshali. “The alleged suspects were said to still be in the vicinity. With the assistance of the victim, police began to search in the bushes and spotted the suspects who tried to run when they saw the police but were caught and arrested. “During the arrest, one of the suspects was found in possession of a pellet gun.”

According to Mtshali, both suspects face charges of rape and possession of a dangerous weapon; more charges could be added.

“The acting station commander of Kempton Park Police Station commended the members for the sterling work as since January several incidents of rape were reported whereby victims were lured through social media about ‘job offers’ in that area,” added Mtshali.
