Laerskool Birchleigh learners blessed with back-to-school gifts

10 lucky learners from Laerskool Birchleigh received a stationery starter pack thanks to the back-to-school project launched by our local heroes and sweethearts.

“A good education is the foundation for a better future” is the theme underlined in a back-to-school project launched by Lorinda Fereirra (20) in conjunction with Norkem Park SAPS.

A group of uniformed officials, Sgt Barbara Ferreira (Sector One), Const PS Mabila (Sector Four), Const Yolanda Sokoyi (Sector Three) and Reneé Erasmus (CPF chief Sector One) joined Lorinda and paid a visit to Laerskool Birchleigh on March 3.

A selection of learners were invited to the small occasion and each blessed with a back-to-school stationery starter pack. Their little faces shined with glee during the handout.

“I collected a list of stationery items to donate to 10 amazing children at Laerskool Birchleigh. With the help of my community and the Norkem Park SAPS this project was a great success,” Lorinda said while sharing hugs with the thankful children. “We made every little heart smile with joy.”

She wished to express her gratitude to the local officials for assisting her in the project. “It was an honour to work alongside you and your colleagues from SAPS and the community forums.”

She said she is passionate about the charity work that she strives to do all over East Rand as she believes that charity starts at home. “By touching so many lives and just to make a small difference makes me view the world differently. “I’m a friendly, outgoing, hardworking 20-year-old from Van Riebeeck Park and my goal in life is to empower young girls and women to feel good about themselves. I aspire to inspire women who should realise and boost their self-worth, confidence and to focus on what makes them feel unique.”

Lorinda is a national finalist for Mini Miss RSA 2021 Carnival Pageant of which the finals are planned to play out in Pretoria in September 2021.
