Sharing warmth and kindness was the primary focus of the Imperfect Moms Foundation (IMF) Winter Charity Drive held on July 18.

The drive was part of the 67 Minutes of Mandela Day.

Close to 300 homeless people and the less fortunate were served on Saturday through the local organisation’s drive.

“We united as the youth in hopes to bring some reform into our community and in doing so, we shared some warmth with close to 300 less fortunate and homeless men, women and children in our community,” said Onthatile Modise, founder and chairperson of IMF.

Through the drive, members of the local organisation served soup, bread and still water and gave away clothing and masks.

Covid-19 regulations were also adhered to as cones were used as social distancing markers while people queued eagerly for the warm soup.

Everyone sanitised before receiving their meal.

IMF treasurer Lehlohonolo Phillips also told Express how heart-warming it was to be able to care for fellow community members and spread some love.

“One often takes for granted the importance of making a difference in people’s lives, no matter how big or small,” said Phillips.

“We need more initiatives like this and more organisations and individuals to offer a helping hand because it really goes a long way.

“The ingredients of the soup and the bread were donated to the organisation by Pick n Pay Festival Mall.

The store manager, Mandla Sithole (left), and the fruit and veg manager, Prudence Mashaba (right), handed IMF treasurer Lehlohonolo Phillips the voucher which helped fill trolleys days before the charity drive.

“We were and still are humbled by the generous donation from Pick n Pay, they believed in us and helped make a difference in our community. For that, we say thank you,” said Modise.

IMF also extends its gratitude to Harvesting Nations Ministries, Food Sourcing Foundation, volunteer Mbuso Kwindo, chef Colleen Ratseane, chef Masego Phillips, Tebogo Ntobeng, Anthony and others who volunteered their time to support their initiative.

“We couldn’t have done this without the help of those who opened their hearts towards our drive. We hope your motions will inspire others to invest more in empowering our generation,” concluded Phillips.
