Watch: 90-year-old surprised with a ‘happy birthday’ convoy

Reactionary services formed part of the long convoy that sounded their sirens and flashed their lights past Sannie and her daughters on Fiskaal Street

On Thursday, a 90-year-old Glen Marais resident, Sannie Botha, was disappointed that her birthday milestone was cancelled.

However, her disappointment was short-lived as local reactionary services showed they care.

Yvonne Brown, the daughter of Sannie, posted a message on multiple WhatsApp groups to request a convoy past her mother’s house as they were forced to cancel her birthday party with friends and family.

Reactionary services such as Smart Security Services (SSS), Sec Pros, P&C Security, FEMS medical response and Kempton Park CPF formed part of the long convoy that sounded their sirens and flashed their lights past Sannie and her daughters on Fiskaal Street.

Once the row of official vehicles made a halt, the officers and first responders gathered in a group across the street at a safe distance from Sannie to sing their birthday wishes.

Friends and family also made a drive-by with posters, wishing her well and dropping off flower bouquets and gifts on the go.

This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime (one can only hope) birthday celebration in Covid-19 style.

To Note: Reports were circulating on social media that shots were fired and that sightings of ambulances and reactionary services indicated there was an alleged shoot-out incident in Fiskaal Street on Thursday around noon.

Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Capt Jethro Mtshali confirmed no reports were made.

This might’ve been misinterpretations due to the convoy hosted for Sannie on her birthday.
