At Norkem High more than R20 000 was stolen, while two robbers were killed at Edenvale High during an attempted robbery. The robbery at Norkem Park High occurred at 10.30am, while the Edenvale incident happened around noon.

According to Andries Lourens, reaction manager at MML Security, Norkem High’s driver was followed from the bank after withdrawing money for a function at the school. As the driver drove into the school premises, a security guard was held at gunpoint by one of the men.

A second man got out of the car, forced his way onto the school premises and held up the driver before taking the money. The incident happened in the school’s parking area where no learners were present.

“We received a panic button call and immediately responded but when we arrived, the suspects were already gone. The driver said everything happened very quickly,” said Lourens.

Lourens also said the three suspects were driving a black Audi. No-one was injured but the driver was badly shaken.

Learners waiting outside Norkem Park High School on Thursday afternoon were not aware of the robbery earlier the day.
