JUST IN: Dowerglen learner (18) hit by stray bullets while sitting in class

An 18-year-old boy was left seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon when he was hit by stray bullets at Dowerglen Glen High School in Edenvale.

According to Russel Meiring, spokesperson for ER24, paramedics arrived on the scene at 12.38pm to find the boy lying in the clinic of the school. A school sister had already begun treating him.

“Paramedics assessed the boy and found he had sustained wounds resembling gunshots to his chest and arm, leaving him in a serious condition. Paramedics treated him and provided him with advanced life support interventions before he was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment,” Meiring said.

Meiring said it was understood he was sitting in the classroom when they heard gunshots. The boy was hit in the chest and immediately rushed to the clinic.
