Fleeing robbers wound shopper at Glen Acres Shopping Centre

The victim was taken to hospital in a stable condition

A female shopper was wounded during an armed robbery at Glen Acres Shopping Centre on Saturday at around 9.45am.

According to Capt Neldah Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni North SAPS Cluster spokesperson, four men entered Ackermans Women and held two employees at gunpoint. The victims were forced to open the tills and safe where cellphones were kept. Am unknown  amount of cash and cellphones were taken, she said.

“In the parking area car guards started to chase the suspects. The suspects fired one shot. The bullet hit an innocent female who was reversing her Nissan NP 200. She was taken to hospital with a gun shot wound to her body.”

Sekgobela said the suspects fled in grey Toyota Corolla.

Police are investigating a case of business robbery and attempted murder. They appeal to anyone with information regarding the suspects to come forward.

A message on social media thanked the nurses from Dischem and the doctors’ rooms across the road who immediately came to assist the injured woman.

“Also a big thanks to all the security services who arrived in seconds to secure the scene and assist until police arrived to take over the scene. Also thank you to the ambulances who arrived shortly afterwards to treat the victim. The victim was taken to hospital in a stable condition,” the message read.
