Heritage walk in Modderfontein on September 25

the walks are so popular that booking is essential

MODDERFONTEIN Conservation Society’s annual heritage walk around the village’s heritage precinct will take place on September 25, the public holiday following Sunday’s Heritage Day.

This is one of the highlights of the society’s annual activities and eagerly awaited by many.

Robbie Vermont and Peter Ewen will conduct two urban ambles around the village. Both will begin at 9am at the gates of The Dynamite Company Museum at 2 Main Street, Modderfontein (just two doors from 33 High Street Restaurant).

This outing will give visitors the opportunity to find out why Modderfontein was called “A Power for Prosperity” in the area and how it contributed to the wealth and development of the East Rand and the country as a whole.

In addition, both The Dynamite Company Museum and historic Franz Höenig Haus will be open for visitors between 10am and 1pm.

According to Vermont, the walks are so popular that booking is essential. The cost is R50 a head and the walks last about one and a half to two hours.

He advises walkers to wear comfortable shoes and hats and bring something to drink if they feel they will need it.

To book, call Vermont on 011 608 2693 or 082 800 3704.
