Church feeds almost 250 people during soup kitchen
The church’s Mormon Helping Hands is a worldwide programme where members throughout the world volunteer to give aid
ALMOST 250 less fortunate people in the community received warm soup and gift packs recently.
Through their project called Mormon Helping Hands, the Birch Acres ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints took to the streets of the suburb on the chilly morning of August 26 to serve soup to the less fortunate.
They set up two soup kitchens, one at Birch Acres Spar and another at the corner of Mooirivier and Pongola River drives.
The church fed 248 people warm soup and gave them gift packs containing face cloths and soap, as well as a sweet treat with a bar of chocolate.
“Ten full time missionaries and the young men of our ward handed out messages and reading material about Jesus Christ and the gospel and all the members helped out by either making the soup or packing the gifts. The Priesthood and Relief Society sisters helped serve the soup.”
Mormon Helping Hands is an organisation which is a project of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a church which has eight wards.
