Loud noise from Dries Niemandt are driving residents crazy

'Residents are furious and I am inundated with complaints,' councillor

Complaints about loud music from Dries Niemandt Park tonight are streaming in.

The music is expected to continue to at least 2am.

Ward councillor Tracey Lourenco said the extreme loud music could be heard as far as Esther Park, Edleen, Rhodesfield, the CBD, Cresslawn and Modderfontein.

Even residents in Van Riebeeck Park are subjected to the noise.

“Residents are furious and I am inundated with complaints,” she told Express on Saturday evening.

Lourenco also said “chaos” was reigning at the stadium, including drinking and throwing of alcohol bottles.

“There is low police visibility. I called the mayor but he did not take my call. I sent him a massage but received no response,” Lourenco said.

“By-laws are being altered to suit agendas as I have been told the party will continue until 2am. A sickly resident is at her wits end. I am taking the matter up very seriously. On August 19 the same thing went on until the early hours of the morning. My windows in Esther Park were vibrating.

“I believe this is a metro event but could not confirm it.”

Lourenco sent this message to the mayor, Clr Mzwandile Masina:

“Good day Mayor, once again residents are faced with unbearable loud music since 8am this morning at Dries Niemandt. Councillors in the Kempton area are receiving a very high level of stress calls from residents. The sound is way too loud!

“I live in Esther Park towards Modderfontein Road and the sound  is very loud here. Please ensure that this party is closed at 12am and look at future events and the permitted noise levels as residents are clear they cannot and will not be subjected to these extremely high levels of noise.

“On August 19 the event carried on until 3am. I will have no choice but to give out your number, that of the MMC and city manager.”
