HUNDREDS of people gathered at Hope Restoration Ministries to attend Dumi Masilela’s memorial service on August 9.
Family, friends and fans of the slain Van Riebeeck Park star celebrated the life of a happy young man who touched lives and inspired the youth to chase their dreams and never to give up.
Dumi died in hospital from a serious gunshot wound after an attempted hijacking in Tembisa on August 2.

Political figures and celebrities graced the ministries with their presence to share memories most people did not know with his family.
Kaizer Chiefs coach Steven Kompela was among some of the soccer stars present. Dumi was also a soccer player until a car accident ended his chances of continuing the sport.
It was clear during speeches that Dumi was widely known for his beautiful voice behind the microphone and for his role as Sfiso in eTV’s soapy, Rhythm City.
His death saw condolences pour in from fellow celebrities, fans and politicians.
Kaizer Chiefs player George Maluleka said Dumi made him approach a girl he liked when he was too scared to talk to her and today that woman is his fiance.
Mduduzi Mabaso from Rhythm City raised the crowd from their chairs when he started praising the Lord and preaching about how God loved pure things and took pure souls such as Dumi and left impure human beings like himself behind.
One of Dumi’s closest friends in the industry, Clement Maosa from SABC1’s soapy Skeem Saam said Dumi was a very spiritual person and that was what had made them become friends.
