Gauteng legislature nurtures senior citizens on Mandela Day

Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) Deputy Chairperson of Committees Mike Madlala joined by the Chairperson of Infrastructure Development Portfolio Committee, Lindi Lasindwa honored the 67 Minutes of Mandela Day at the Tembisa Old Age Home gardening, cooking, cleaning, and giving love to residents of the home.

Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) Deputy Chairperson of Committees Mike Madlala and the Chairperson of Infrastructure Development Portfolio Committee, Lindi Lasindwa honored the 67 Minutes of Mandela Day at the Tembisa Old Age Home by gardening, cooking, cleaning, and giving love to residents of the home.

They also donated some essential amenities.

Other delegations from GPL spent Mandela Day serving residents at the Phomolong Centre for the Aged.

In recent years, GPL commemorated Mandela Day by using the opportunity to intensify its outreach campaigns aimed at improving the quality of lives of the vulnerable and less fortunate citizens of Gauteng, especially children and women.

As a responsive, relevant and caring 21st-century Legislature, GPL is passionate about the continued struggle for socio-economic equality for the people.

This year, GPL honours the elderly whose sacrifices and hard work have contributed greatly to building a strong and resilient society.

The visits will include the donation of food items, bedding and other amenities to the elderly, building towards a sustainable relationship with the two facilities.

GPL is committed to serving the people of Gauteng, and is continuously intensifying its annual programmes to reflect and meet the needs of our evolving society.

GPL further encourages all Gauteng residents to also do their bit to empower those less fortunate by dedicating time and efforts beyond the 67 Minutes for Mandela campaign.
