Officers on horseback find hijacked vehicle at entrance to OR Tambo

The 23-year-old driver from Tembisa was arrested and charged.

A VW Polo hijacked in June was recovered by the metro police’s equestrian unit at the airport on Monday.

Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said high visibility patrols were carried out in and around OR Tambo International Airport by EMPD specialised units during the morning.

“The suspicious VW Polo with only the driver was stopped around 9.30am by equestrian unit members and a thorough inspection of the vehicle revealed it was hijacked in Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga. The arrest took place at the entrance to the drop-off zone of the airport.”

The 23-year-old driver from Tembisa was arrested and charged with possession of a hijacked motor vehicle at Kempton Park Police Station.
