Tembisa Child Welfare receives generous donation

Members of Sealed Air Africa in partnership with Radisson Blu Gautrain visited Tembisa Child Welfare on July 6 during a launch of Linen for Life project.

Sealed Air donated six brand new sewing machines, hand soaps, balls and hula hoops to Tembisa Child Welfare.

Radisson Blu Gautrain collects linen, towels and gives to the organisation on a monthly base.

Tembisa Child Welfare children play with the hula hoops and balls after the handover.

Linen for Life collects used linens from hotels, which range from towels, bed covers, cushion covers, curtains to staff uniforms.

They then allocate these materials to locals, providing them training on how to recycle and make new products – bed covers for hospitals, children’s uniforms, bags, sleeping bags or cooking aprons.

Sealed Air Africa and the Radisson Blu Gautrain have partnered with Tembisa Child Welfare on this project.

The welfare organisation teaches women to sew and they make uniforms, bed linen and clothing.

Present at the launch were the staff of both Sealed Air and Radisson Blu Gautrain.

Tembisa Child Welfare staff members Lawrence Thangwari, Mlungisi Mabowa, Thuli Davana joined by Sealed Air’s Paula Mofokeng (White apron) and Radisson Blu Gautrain’s Elna Velthuysenon during the handover of the donated items.

According to the human resources manager at Raddison Blu, Elna Velthuysenon, they have been supporting Tembisa Child Welfare for the past couple of years and have chosen them as a preferred NGO for all their CSI projects.

“We believe in building relationships with them and not just donate to a different company/NGO with every event or initiative we do. With the soap for hope project we did last year and now the linen for hope, we encourage children to make something of their lives – to work and grow but also to appreciate what you have even if you only have a little.

“We support these children as times are tough and they don’t have the families and support structures that most of us are privileged to have,” said Velthuysenon.

Tembisa Child Welfare’s managing director, Wilhemina Bodibe, said she appreciated the generous donation.

“Linen for Life does not only benefit us but we also share the towels, linens with other home base carers and homes to boost our community. We are very thankful to have such companies who think about us,” added Bodibe.
