Birchleigh clean-up continues

Residents once again convened in Birchleigh to clean up their neighbourhood.

RESIDENTS of Birchleigh met again for another installment of their neighbourhood’s clean-up campaign on July 1, at Matumi Street.

Locals held the first clean-up on June 3. It was initiated and promoted by Bohlale Rantsedi and Phineas Momoti who said they were disappointed to see Birchleigh deteriorate because of littering and illegal dumping.

On July 1, Birchleigh residents were joined by little Kutlwano who helped to make the town cleaner.

The volunteers thought it best to continue with the campaign until the rest of Birchleigh is cleaner and people get used to dumping their waste in rubbish bins. They are motivated by the support and endorsement of local stores, ward councillor Gideon van Zyl and Emmanuel Molaba from Ekurhuleni Waste Management Services.

Rantsedi and Momoti said they would keep communicating dates of planned clean-ups and would love to see more people assist so that Birchleigh’s environment could be restored to its glory days.

The volunteers enjoyed great support from a local company that printed flyers for the campaign and local stores that handed out refuse bags. They are keen to see more and more businesses getting involved.
