Almeya Belly Dance Studio impresses with its latest showcase

Dancers wowed the crowd at Hoërskool Birchleigh on Saturday night

PROUD women from Almeya Belly Dance Studio impressed the crowd at Hoërskool Birchleigh on Saturday night.

The event was the Birchleigh Dance Studio’s 12th annual student showcase whereby students displayed their fine moves to their families and friends.

Scores of locals sat around tables and enjoyed their treats as students mesmerised them with exquisite choreography which complimented every beat of the music.

Dawn May and Wilma Allann, who are both instructors at the studio, are always proud to host the student showcase event as it allows locals to witness local talent they can be proud of.

THE choreography and music impressed the crowd on Saturday night.

“We host two of these showcases every year and we are always very proud. This is a dance that is good for body toning, exercise and teaches body coordination.

“Tiggie Mann once said, ‘belly dancing is an activity that assists participants with positive body imaging because participants tend to focus less on external body appearance and focus more on the experience of what they are able to do with their bodies’.”

THE women showcased local talent to the crowd.

May believes this form of dancing makes women feel more worthy and makes them love themselves more and just focus on what they can do.

“Any person from the age of seven can learn to belly dance and we are always eager to teach people. If there is anyone wishing to join they can do so by calling me on 083 354 2830,” she added.
