Exclusively in today’s Kempton Express: Former teacher turns 100

A teacher that changed lives, influenced changed was celebrated by her large family.

A former school teacher, author and artist from Kempton Park, who has been around the city since 1946, has just turned 100.

Cecilia Saayman celebrated her life and all her achievements with her large family and friends on June 17 in Van Riebeeck Park.

She raised three sons and a daughter and her life story as a teacher is now taught to her 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She has been a resident of Kempton Park since the 40s and witnessed its growth from the days of sandy roads when she was still a teacher at the then Laerskool Pomona. Schools back then only had a handful of teachers who were in high demand.
