Avoid: Heavy delays on R24 as truck falls off bridge

Traffic has been slowed down in both directions

MOTORISTS have been advised to avoid the R24 east after a truck crashed through the R24 bridges and landed on Shelton Avenue.

According to reports, the truck was trying to avoid a taxi, which was being towed by another vehicle.

The crash occurred between the Edenvale and the Barbara roads exits.

Details are still sketchy at the moment but it is believed two taxi passengers have suffered minor injuries.

“It is reported that a taxi was being towed by another vehicle when the taxi driver lost control of the taxi. The truck tried to manoeuvre out of the way but instead landed on Shelton Road,” Jurgen Kotze of Emer-G-Med, said.

According to Traffic SA, traffic has been slowed down in both the directions.

Traffic SA has advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid the congestion. They tweeted that the N12 / R21 via Boksburg route would be the best bet.
