Con Amore fundraises for autism phase

The school would like to make the fun run an annual event

CON Amore held a fun run with a difference on Saturday morning at the school.

The running event was organised not only to raise awareness of autism but also to raise funds for the school’s autism phase.

The fun-filled family day was organised by the autism phase’s Adriana Janse van Rensburg, HOD for the junior phase, and Ansie Gildenhuys of the senior phase.

IT’S a sister thing: sisters Hester (12), Nicole (12) and Nikita Keyser (13) dominated the children’s race by coming first, second and third.

“We need to raise funds which will go towards developing the school’s autism phase through getting better educational equipment and resources, a playground for the children as well as a sensory area,” Janse van Rensburg said.

A sensory area helps children with autism develop greater sensory awareness in terms of sound, sight, touch and smell.

CON Amore’s acting school principal Piere du Preez congratulates Jonathan Broodt on winning the men’s race on Saturday. Broodt ran for his little brother, who is a learner in the autism phase.

The school’s autism phase, which now has five classes, caters for children aged seven to 18 years old.

The school has also requested businesses and organisations to sponsor or donate things like building materials.

The school aims to make the fun run an annual event.
