BREAKING: Watch truck blown up in cash-in-transit heist on R24

Three people sustained slight injuries

A cash-in-transit heist occurred on the R24 east near the Barbara Road off-ramp about two hours ago.

Although details are still sketchy, it is believed explosives were used in the robbery.

Werner Vermaak of ER24 said three people were assessed.

“Paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found a security van that was blown apart. Two security guards were found on the scene. Both were assessed by the paramedics and found with no physical injuries.

A secondary incident occurred when flying debris landed on a vehicle during the explosion. The driver of the vehicle was assessed and later transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Police were in attendance on scene and will investigate. It is not known whether the robbers got away with the money.
