A selfless gesture to assist.

This was how a passing motorist described the effort a beggar put in to fill a pothole on the corner where he makes his daily living.

Lizelle Botha passed the intersection of Elgin Road and Soutpansberg Drive on Wednesday afternoon.

While waiting at the traffic light she saw how the man used the placard he begged with, as well as scrap cardboard and loose soil on the pavement, to fill the hole.

“I thought it was such a selfless gesture for him to assist. He must have seen the cars trying to avoid it and decided to make a difference,” she wrote to EXPRESS, also sending two pictures she took.

How successful his attempt was with this rain, is not known.
