Ndivho will be laid to rest on Saturday in Venda

On Monday at approximately 2:15pm, Ndivho, a Grade 7 learner of Mvelaphanda Primary School, was trying to cross a strongly flowing stream after heavy rains when she was swept away at Ibazelo Section next to Railway.

The Malatsi and Ntundu families in Ivory Park, Extension 9 are in mourning for 13-year-old Ndivho Malatsi, who drowned after being swept away by a stream.

The Tembisan previously reported that the 13-year-old girl from Mvelaphanda Primary School drowned after heavy downpours on January 30 while attempting to cross a strongly flowing stream.

On that day at about 2.15pm, Ndivho, a Grade 7 learner, was trying to cross a stream when she was swept away at Ibazelo Section next to Railway.

Her father, Mr Hendrick Malatsi, said that, after realising that his daughter had not returned home after school on Monday, went to look for her.

“I heard news from Mvelaphanda Primary School principal that there were two learners who tried to cross the stream and were swept away. It was very difficult but I had to look for her in the storm water from Ibazelo to Tsenelong sections. By then, the water was flowing at an extremely dangerous level and I was hoping to find her still alive. While searching we found her shoe across Tsenelong but we did not find her on Monday. I searched for her with her mother until midnight,” explained Mr Malatsi.

Mr Malatsi added that he continued his search on the morning of Tuesday and that was when divers found Ndivho’s body in a stream next to Winnie Mandela not far from Ivory Park, Extension 9.

“I couldn’t sleep that Monday night knowing my child was suffering out there. This is the hardest experience and most painful that I’ve ever felt before.

Mr Malatsi said his child loved playing games on the phone and watching cartoons.

“She had a bright smile and her whole life ahead of her. She used to spend most of her time with me. She was a daddy’s girl. I loved her very much,” he said.

Ndivho’s mother, Ms Violet Stundu, was in great shock and couldn’t speak to The Tembisan.

Mr Malatsi said they are appealing for any kind of donation to help transport the deceased to her resting place in Sambandau Village in Venda.

The funeral service of 13-year-old Ndivho Malatsi will be held at Sambandau Village in Venda on Saturday.
