Local mother is Queen of the Universe

She competed alongside 40 other finalists from across the world

AFTER placing as third runner-up at Ms Universal 2016 in Reno, local mother Angie Bryant, was crowned Queen of the Universe on September 3.

She won the Queen of the World pageant this year, a local pageant hosted for women across Africa, and qualified to represent the continent at the Ms Universal pageant alongside 40 other finalists from across the world.

Bryant said the competition was tough as all the competitors were very strong contenders, each one a winner in her own right. The women were required to walk in smart casual wear and then in evening wear in front of a panel of six judges.

Thereafter, interviews were done with a panel of three judges, where the contestants were required to dress in the national costume of the country they were representing. Bryant was dressed by Sun Goddess, Glam Avenue, Meagan Johnson and Michelle Herbst.

“This is a prestigious title and requires me to do charity events and fundraisers, as well as represent the brand at social events. Pageants SA also presents me with the opportunity to take part in international pageants by winning this title,” said Bryant.

Bryant’s intentions are to continue working with Salem Baby Care Centre, Isaiah 58 Children’s Village and Door of Hope Baby Centre. She also plans to get more involved with Pageants SA projects for Dignity Dreams and Desk Bags. These foundations aim at keeping kids in school.

Bryant, a member and coach at Model Manifest, is excited to be working with her sister queens at a few events the Pageants SA titleholders within the group plan to do together.

Other than advocating that beauty should be with purpose, Bryant also enjoys dancing, singing and coaching girls in the modelling and pageant industry.

“Ms Universal was my last pageant as I want to focus on my daughter, my charities and my students.”

Bryant has taken part in nine pageants since September last year of which she won five, was first princess twice as well as second princess. She was named Model Manifest Overall Model of the Year in December.
