“As I slowed down at the traffic light, people jumped into my car, forcing me out as the doors were not locked. I was stabbed in the head with a bottle and beaten close to unconsciousness as I put up a fight,” the man said.

The robbers stripped him of his jeans, cap and Timberland boots, and took his cellphone and wallet.

“They left me for dead, bleeding next to the road.”

However, the hijackers did not get far with his bakkie, as the anti-hijack device kicked in, causing the vehicle to cut out.

“Before they could return to me, a police van doing rounds spotted my car as the alarm rang with hazards flashing.”
