Water flows for 9 hours as there are no standby teams

Water from a burst pipe in Bonaero Park allegedly flowed from midnight and throughout the day before being attended to by the municipality

ON Wednesday, August 24 at around midnight, a Bonaero Park family reported a burst pipe on Shannon Avenue across from their property.

The water was flowing down the street and into their yard.

“The call centre consultant told us that municipal workers only came out from 7am,” said the man.

By 9am when he checked and called EXPRESS, the water was still flowing.

“Who is liable to pay for this wasted water, and why are there no workers on standby in case of emergencies?” he asked.

When asked these questions, metro spokesman Themba Gadebe’s, response was that the burst water pipe had been repaired on Friday, August 25. He did not address the issue of who would be responsible for paying for the wasted water.
