Mlotshwa celebrates

The event was organised by the Young Generation, which was founded by Ma Mchunu in 2010.

Mr Mkhulu John Mlotshwa celebrated his 97th birthday party with his family and friends at his home in Ivory Park on Saturday last week.

The event was organised by the Young Generation, which was founded by Ma Mchunu in 2010.

Ma Mchunu said she formed this organisation with the purpose of keeping the youth off the street and away from drugs.

The group encourages youngsters to do something positive.

The event was part of the 67 Minutes for Mandela Day celebrations.

The event was attended by young and old, pastors, local police and the outgoing councillor, Clr Petros Zitha.

The day started with a march led by a group of young people (with boys clad in overalls and girls wearing white t-shirts and blue skirts) from an International Apostolic Church in Phomolong. The group marched along the streets of Ivory Park, dancing to the tune of their drums and to the melodi ya diphala to the excitement of the people, who were walking down June 16 Street.

At the venue, an Ivory Park-based youth group, the Young Generation, performed some kofifi dance moves. This was followed by an Aids drama performance, with Simphiwe Mdletye reciting a Xhosa poem. After that, a local ‘Boys 2 Men’ group mesmerised the audience with their scintillating capella musical sounds.

When delivering his speech, Mr Mkhulu Mlotshwa shared what had kept him healthy and strong throughout the years.

He then led the group with a worship song.

“My advice to you is to stay away from drugs and don’t drink alcohol. I have never spent a night in jail during my youthful days,” said Mkhulu Mlotshwa.
