Home gets help from club

“We decided to do our 67 minutes today because our members stay in remote areas."

The Corsa Utility Club Mzansi (CUCM) gave groceries and furniture to the Bula Mahlo home and daycare.

On Saturday, July 16, CUCM members in collaboration with the 012UTE Club decided to spend the day with the children at the home. They also painted the walls to revamp some of the rooms.

“We decided to do our 67 minutes today because our members stay in remote areas and most will be working on July 18,” said Mr Sipho Ledwaba.

The club has members from as far afield as Mpumalanga, who decided to spend their time with the orphaned children at the Bula Mahlo home.

“We painted two play rooms which are also used as daycare centres. We donated sofas, a microwave and a small toddler’s bed,” said Mr Ledwaba.

He said their organisation has also committed to giving six computers and a printer.

“The home gave us a wish list and these are some of the things they asked for. We still need to complete the list,” he said.

The home was identified through the help of Mr Jabulani Nkuna, who is an attorney in Tembisa.

“I was told about the home by an acquaintance and I came to assess their situation.

“We thereafter asked for their wish list and that is why we are here today,” said Mr Nkuna.

Mr Nkuna said there will be an ongoing relationship between the CUCM and the home.

“We appeal to the community and businesses to get involved in assisting the children on their day-to-day needs to ease the plight faced by the founder in raising the children.

“This shouldn’t be a cause done only on Mandela Day,” said Mr Nkuna.

The CUCM is a registered charity organisation, consisting of 28 members.

The club was established with the aim of assisting needy communities.

“To date we have worked on more than 33 charity events in different provinces,” said Mr Ledwaba.

He said community members who have either a Corsa or Chevrolet utility bakkie and who are willing to give back time and provisions, are welcome to join the club.
