Last day to apply for school placement: what happens then?

Parents will be given seven days to accept or reject placement offers

PARENTS who have not yet applied for placement for their children for the 2017 academic year in any public school in Gauteng have until midnight tonight (June 1) to do so.

Parents can register their children using the convenient online learner application system by visiting www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.

Parents who do not have access to the internet are urged to visit their nearest school or district office for assistance. Those who are still experiencing challenges with the online applications can contact the Gauteng Department of Education’s call centre on 011-355-0000 or the toll free number 0800 000 789.

Since the launch of the online application process in April, over 673 911 applications have been received and processed. For Grade 1, the department received 109 121 applications and 83 113 for Grade 8 learners.

The department has also recorded 17 167 applications for learners in between the grades (Grade 2-7), despite the system mainly targeting Grade 1 and Grade 8 applicants.

What happens next?

The placement of learners will take place from June 24 until July 25. During this period, schools will process learner placement online.

Parents will receive an automated SMS indicating offer of placement. Letters will also be sent to parents informing them of successful and unsuccessful applications.

Parents will be given seven days to accept or reject placement offers. Parents who will not confirm acceptance or rejection of the offer will forfeit such an offer and the next parent will be placed in the available space.
