Trendsetters take to the catwalk

Forty models took to the fashion ramp dressed in locally designed garments.

Young models took to the fashion runway to showcase their talent on March 26.

Tembisa Trendsetters organised a fashion show titled, ‘Twenty Sweet Things to Celebrate a Good Lifestyle in 2016′.

Forty models took to the fashion ramp dressed in locally designed garments.

“People are already wearing uniquely designed clothes, so we wanted to create a platform and expose those unknown local designers who create their own work in private spaces,” said one of the event’s organisers, Mr Prince Mngomezulu.

“You could be living with a designer right next door and you wouldn’t even know it.”

Fashionistas from various townships came out in large numbers to support the event.

“We are trying to push black entrepreneurship and we want people to be proudly South African and to wear local designers’ clothing,” said co-organiser Menzi Mkhwanazi.

He said as much as it started in Tembisa, Tembisa Trendsetters’ vision is bigger.

“We want to reach all nine provinces and go beyond our borders. We will host the next event in Edenvale on May 1. We will go to other surrounding suburbs too,” he said.

The pair said there is no specific criteria when selecting designers for the events.

“We focus on skill, not qualification. There is a bright future for Kasi designers and they can make a career out of fashion.” Interested designers can contact Tembisa Trendsetters on 076 107 5769 or 071 750 4027.
