Driver critical after accident at Griffiths off-ramp on R21

The exact cause of the collision is unknown

A man was critically injured and four others sustained moderate injuries in a collision between a bakkie and a car on the R21 at the Griffiths off-ramp bridge this morning.

When ER24 paramedics and fire and rescue services arrived on scene they found that the driver of the car, a Golf, was trapped in the vehicle, Chitra Bodasing of ER24 said.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was extricated. Upon assessment it was found he was in a critical condition.

Other patients who were found sitting on the side of the road and standing around the scene were assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries.

All patients were treated and transported to hospital for further medical care.
