The maroon Toyota Venture was hijacked in Tembisa

A taxi patroller was shot and wounded on Sunday while trying to keep an eye on a hijacked taxi he spotted on the R21.

Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said the maroon Toyota Venture was hijacked in Tembisa at 10am.

“The patroller sighted the hijacked vehicle near the Albertina Sisulu (R21) freeway. In his efforts to keep the vehicle in his sights while awaiting assistance, the taxi patroller was shot and wounded by the hijacker. He was taken to Tembisa Hospital for medical attention,” Kgasago said.

The Toyota Venture was recovered in Jiyane Section in Tembisa at around 11.30am. It had been abandoned near a house on Abidjan Street.

The suspects are still at large. Investigations are underway to bring the culprits to book.
