#ServingOurGeneration – youth movement conference celebrated on Mandela Day

The theme for this year’s youth movement conference, which was celebrated on Mandela Day, was #ServingOurGeneration.

The 21st century youth movement celebrated its fourth conference in Mandela style, when members held their annual youth conference in Ebony Park this past Saturday.

The movement, which consists of young individuals from various churches, held a conference at the Prayer Bible Church Ebony Park, Extension 5.

The conference is celebrated on the last Saturday of the winter school holidays, which happened to be on Mandela Day this year.

The theme for this year’s conference was “serving our generation”.

As part of serving, the youth movement visited the Tumelo Home in Ebony Park, a home for mentally disabled children. This was followed by an educational expo where over 500 young people gathered.

Phuti Moyaha, a founding member of the organisation, said it is important that young people get access to resources and information that can help them make better decisions regarding their careers.

The young people were educated about the various career options available to them at the Tshwane South College.

The Film and Publication Board (Fvb) was also there to educate the youth about various issues concerning age restrictions and cyber bullying.

“It is important for the youth to be educated about the various age restrictions and that they also get to understand why they exist. The issue of cyber bullying is of paramount importance to us in that many young people experience cyber bullying but do not know how to deal with such issues,” said Mr Vincent Mnisi, an Fvb representative.

Mr Mnisi also advised the youth to report or complain to the Fvb about any publications which may not comply with the Films and Publications Act.

Top Notch Marketing, a local business that focuses on event catering, was another of the exhibitors.

Ms Lerato Regaba, the CEO of Top Notch Marketing which offers training to young people who want to be cake artists, spoke about how it is important for young people to follow their dreams and to know what they want out of their life.

She stressed that young women must not fear trying new things and challenging the status quo.
