Spreading love to the homeless on Long Street

The boys were given, food, Bibles and a message of inspiration

MENTORING Empowering and Loving Others (MELO), an organisation set on spreading a message of love to those who need it, celebrated Mandela Day with the street boys on the corner of Long Street and Monument Road.

On Sunday, July 19, the boys were given, food, Bibles and a message of inspiration.

“For us it was more than just Mandela Day and spending 67 minutes doing charity work, it is our mandate as Christians to spread the Word of God to those who need it and to tell them of God’s love and that was what we were doing,” said Tumelo ”Melo” Tshetlo, founder of MELO and organiser of the event.

Tshetlo said the organisation would like to be involved more in the community and would like to help the boys on an ongoing basis and contribute to finding a permanent solution for their welfare.

Young people from Word Praise Christian Centre International (WPCCI) church, in Olifantsfontein, Kempton Park residents, the Kempton Park SAPS and the Youth Desk, Clr Jaco Terblanche, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), the Brown Brothers and Christian Faith Church (CFC), in Bonaero Park, all contributed to making the day a success.
