67 trees to be planted by metro to honour Nelson Mandela Day

The Tembisa community are urged to attend

In honouring the legacy of Nelson Mandela, the City of Ekurhuleni will join the rest of the world in observing the annual International Mandela Day by planting 67 indigenous trees and cleaning the Kaalspruit stream in Tembisa on Monday.

Executive mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele is set to take a bold step to inspire change within the City by leading a delegation of the members of the mayoral committee and the community of ward 3 at the Winnie Mandela section in Tembisa.

Involving the community to plant the 67 indigenous trees along DM Morokane Drive and cleaning the Kaalspruit stream is the City’s way of facilitating future sustainability of the environment.

“As the municipality we urge every citizen to take part in making a difference within their communities in honour of Nelson Mandela,” said Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Themba Gadebe.

Members of the community wishing to participate during the International Mandela Day campaign can converge at the central meeting point at the corner of Solomon Mahlangu Drive and DM Morokane Drive at 10am.
