Three arrested after double hijacking in Norkem

The two victims were also robbed of their cellphones and cash

THE metro police arrested three suspects on Friday after seven gunmen hijacked two vehicles in Norkem Park at 8pm on Thursday evening.

Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said the friends were accosted while chatting seated in their separate vehicles.

A Jeep Cherokee and an Opel Corsa were taken. The vehicles were recovered on Friday morning at 5am in the parking lot of Caprivi Lounge Café in Tembisa. Three suspects were apprehended.

The two victims were also robbed of their cellphones and cash.

“Members of the EMPD Crime Prevention Unit sighted the hijacked vehicles and confronted the three occupants who were in the silver grey Jeep Cherokee. One suspect was shot in the thigh and two offered no resistance,.” Kgasago said.

The wounded suspect was transported to Tembisa Hospital where he is under police guard. It later emerged that the wounded suspect had recently been released from jail after serving time for housebreaking. The other hijacked vehicle, a silver Opel Corsa, was also recovered in the same parking lot.

A white VW Golf 3, suspected to be the vehicle used as a getaway vehicle by the suspects, was found parked strategically, apparently to conceal the two hijacked vehicles.
