Actors impress art festival

A Swedish choir performed at the Tembisa Art Revival Festival held at the Moses Molelekwa Art centre on Saturday last week.

The crowed greeted the 30 performing artists enthusiastically and called out repeatedly for encores from the group.

The organiser of the festival, Mr Oupa Malatjie, said more international groups are participating in Tembisa events.

“This shows our township is now known across the world because of our own local actors. It is not surprising because we are situated next to the airport, which I think should be renamed to the Tembisa International Airport,” he said jokingly.

Mr Lucky Professor Kgafela’s drama titled Abadala, or the aged, narrated how old people are treated at pension pay points. At times, pensioners are seen being beaten by government officials for making a noise while queuing at pay points.

But the audience, including guests from Sweden, were on their feet when Mr Malatie’s actors played Eiesh on stage. Seeing as they were performing in from of the visiting Swedish choir, the actors gave their best and had the crowd glued to the stage. After their performance, the Mr Malatjie said he was impressed with the attendance.
